When textiles are art.

Nothing quite says summer, coastal or sea-meets-sky like a truly individual & vibrant pop of gorgeous indigo blue (Biru) in your relaxation zone... you're on holidays!  Natural, handcrafted and environmentally sustainable, our two-sided Biru Indigo & White Gradient Natural Dye Cushion Cover is a statement piece for its stunning texture and unique pattern, and its impressive production credentials. Every pieces is individual and hand-crafted.

This gorgeous Biru indigo cushions range is proudly hand dyed, woven, designed and finished by a expert team of artisans from the east coast of Bali, Indonesia.  No two pieces are exactly the same.  Two sided, high-quality production and finishing - all done by hand, using natural dyes - these cushions are a work of art and passion.

Indigo is a natural dye extracted from the leaves of some plants of the Indigofera Leaf.  The process of turning green leaves into bright blue dye through fermentation has been passed down for thousands of years.  Indigo is the most popular colour but the hardest to extract.

Cushion cover 50cm x 50cm;  See the full range of unique prints, designs and bed throws crafted using these practices.  See product gallery pictures and below for more information on these ancient, now increasingly rare, natural practices.

ABOUT NATURAL DYEING

We’re proud to source these gorgeous, natural fabrics from our partners from the east coast of Bali, leaders across Indonesia in their craft, who’ve passionately offered natural dye products and services since 2001.  With their mission to preserve and revitalise the traditional woven materials still used in fabric making, they’ve led a new approach: dying in an environmentally friendly, sustainable and holistic way, with a strong creative side, giving as much value to the dyeing process itself as to the natural raw materials that make the dye.

They dye yarn and cloth, and create handwoven fabric, housewares, clothing, and accessories. The dyes are made from locally available leaves, like tarum, mango, secang, umbrella tree, mahogany, and sappan and blended to make hundreds of colours. Darker shades may be dyed up to eight times. Fully committed to environmental responsibility, they use plant waste to make compost, leftover dye water goes through biological filtration, and fabric scraps are upcycled to make rugs and table mats.

By using leaves from various trees as the main ingredients for fabric dyeing, taken from garden planted on their land for this purpose, they combine innovation to the textile industry by offering environmentally friendly products. However, using natural dyes requires a different process than synthetic dyes and takes longer because the leaves must be processed to obtain the desired colour. This is necessary to preserve the cultural values that have been passed down for many years.

Please note inserts aren't included, Spotlight has a great range of all sizes for great prices.
